7 rule violations that I feel are the worst bicycle manners.

Rules and Manners

Nowadays, when the issue of bicycle etiquette has become something of a hot topic, road bikes, hybrid bikes, and other sports bikes are often the focus of discussion.

Whether riding a city bike, road bike, or hybid bike, there are people who obey the rules and ride with good manners, and there are also people who completely ignore the rules and have bad manners.

I think there are certain people who are completely careless and unmannered about the rules, no matter how much they are told not to.

So I don’t think that people who ride hybrid bikes or road bikes don’t follow the rules.

However, it is hard to deny that bicyclists have worse manners and do not follow the rules compared to other vehicles.

I have been thinking about bicycle rule violations that I see on a daily basis that I would like to see stopped.

7 rule violations of bad bicycle manners.

Bicycle riding at high speed on the sidewalk

Many bicycles ride at high speed on the sidewalks.

I have two small children, and when I go out with them, I always have to be careful of bicycles on the sidewalk.

There are many bicycles that run right by my children while I am walking on the sidewalk holding their hands at a very high speed, and I cannot let my children walk without worrying about what might happen if they collide with a bicycle.

When I am walking on the sidewalk with my child, I always have to be aware of bicycles.

Sidewalks allow two-way traffic, so if a cyclist comes from in front of me and I avoid him, a cyclist will come from behind! This is often the case!

I have had many near-miss moments myself, and have even been rear-ended by a cyclist driving with an umbrella on a rainy day.

Pedestrians are basically supposed to walk on the outside of the sidewalk, i.e., on the left side, but they may move to the right side if someone is walking or riding a bicycle in front of them.

Children, moreover, are unpredictable.

Common sense would tell us that we understand that children move unpredictably, so at least when passing by pedestrians, one would think that the child might make an unexpected move.

However, there are so many people who run past children at breakneck speeds.

Even bicyclists with children on their bikes, who are supposed to understand children, sometimes run past pedestrians without slowing down.

It is very hard to understand.

By reference, slow traffic means a speed of 6 to 8 km/h.

Since a person’s normal walking speed is about 4 km/h, this means that they must run a little faster than a pedestrian.

However, the slow speed does not seem to be observed.

Smartphone operation while riding a bicycle

Smartphone operation while riding a bicycle

Smartphone use while driving a car is out of the question, but recently smartphones while walking have also become a problem.

In Hawaii, a ban on walking smartphones has been enforced, and walking smartphones have become a global problem.

Of course, operating a smartphone while riding a bicycle is also a problem.

People who are on their phones may think they have no problem, but there are many things that are dangerous from their side, such as not following the flow of traffic, unsteady driving routes, sudden reactions, inattention to the road ahead, and not looking at their surroundings.

There are so many people today who walk into the street without looking ahead, and I think that ordinances and laws need to bind them.

In news reports of bicycle traffic accidents, the excuse “I wasn’t looking ahead” is frequently given as the reason for the accident.

Perhaps they were operating their smartphones.

The problem is that many people who walk on their phones have no interest in anyone but themselves and do not think they are bothering many people.

Even if there are signs posted all over the city saying “No Walking Smartphone,” these people do not see any warnings.

They will not change their ways until they are actually penalized or cause an accident.

Many people operate their cell phones while riding bicycles, and this is a matter that should be the subject of an immediate crackdown, but unfortunately, it does not appear to be actively enforced.

Operating a smartphone while riding a bicycle can cause a serious accident.

This is one of the bicycle rule violations that should be strictly enforced.

Riding a bicycle with an umbrella

Riding a bicycle with an umbrella

Riding a bicycle with an umbrella is such a common practice that many people do not even recognize it as a violation.

I always see them on rainy days.

On rainy days, braking power is reduced, the road surface becomes slippery, and visibility is reduced.

In such a situation, driving with one hand and an umbrella, which is difficult to balance and easily agitated by the wind, is dangerous.

There are many fashionable and functional bicycle kappas available these days, so people who ride bicycles on rainy days should definitely consider them.

Drunk Riding of Bicycles

Drunk Riding of Bicycles

Drunken riding of bicycles may be a common practice, but it is completely out of bounds.

However, at midnight on Fridays, I see many bicycles near the downtown area that appear to be drunk.

I am also an automobile driver, and the conditions are so bad that I don’t want to drive a car at night on weekends.

Currently, drunken riding applies to bicycles.

In the first place, there is no way to ride a bicycle safely after drinking alcohol, and riding a bicycle while intoxicated is still something that should not be done.

Don’t ride if you drink is the same for cars and bicycles.

Riding a bicycle without lights

Riding a bicycle without lights

Many modern city bicycles automatically turn on their lights when it gets dark, and although the number of bicycles without lights has decreased compared to a decade ago, there are still many bicycles that run without lights.

People who ride bicycles without lights tell me that they are confident that they can see and are safe, but they don’t seem to have it in their heads to the point where they are not visible to others when they have no lights on.

As anyone who drives a car knows, a bicycle with no lights on is almost unrecognizable, even if it is in front of you. It is also very difficult to see them in the side mirror.

Even motorcycles turn on their lights in the daytime to show their presence to cars, but it is no exaggeration to say that a bicycle, which is much smaller than a motorcycle, riding without lights at night is a suicidal act because it is completely invisible to other drivers.

The meaning of turning on the lights is not only to illuminate the road in front of you, but also to make your own presence known to motor vehicles and other vehicles. Safety awareness is considered to be completely lacking in those who do not have their lights on.

It is very important to make your presence known as a condition for safe bicycle riding.

You should never get others into trouble due to your own inadequacies.

For this reason, one of the things you should never do is to ride a bicycle without lights.

For your own protection, we would like you to always ride with your front lights on.

Bicycle riding the wrong way on the roadway

Bicycle riding the wrong way on the roadway

Bicycles riding the wrong way on the roadway are still a daily sight.

I think that riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the roadway is something that no one with a proper sense of safety would ever do, but there are many bicycles that ride on the wrong side of the roadway.

Bicycles riding the wrong way on the roadway are extremely annoying and dangerous, both from the point of view of motorists and cyclists riding on the roadway.

It is said that people who ride in the opposite direction have a self-centered view of riding in the opposite direction, saying that it is safer to see oncoming traffic.

Since the rule of the roadway is that cars, motorcycles, and bicycles all drive on the right side of the road, it is basically an assumption for the driver that there are no vehicles coming in the opposite direction.

Therefore, when a bicyclist appears, it takes time for the driver to understand that he or she is riding the wrong way, and he or she is unable to react on the spur of the moment.

This is especially important for bicyclists riding in the same place (lane), as bicyclists riding in the opposite direction are at risk of a head-on collision and should be stopped at all costs.

Sometimes you will come across bicyclists who are riding the wrong way and without lights.

They should be aware that they are acting quite crazy.

People who can commit such acts with impunity are basically self-centered people who are not the least bit interested in what is going on around them.

No matter how many warning signs are put up, such as “No Riding in the Wrong Way!

It is a problem that no matter how many warning signs are put up, they do not pay any attention to the people around them.

Bicycle ignoring traffic signals

Bicycle ignoring traffic signals

I believe that traffic safety is only possible on the premise that everyone follows the rules.

Since all vehicles run under the assumption that they are obeying the rules of proceeding on green lights and stopping at red lights, it becomes difficult for drivers to react quickly to those who do not obey the rules.

Although obeying traffic signals should be a simple and clear rule that even a small child can understand, there are so many bicycles that do not obey traffic signals.

Since bicycles are not licensed, it is inevitable to some extent that some people do not know detailed traffic rules, but even a three-year-old child knows that “signals must be obeyed” and “stop at red lights.

I think jaywalking is a typical behavior that damages the reputation of bicyclists.

There are a tremendous number of people, young and old, male and female, of all types of bicycles, who jaywalk.

Most of the traffic rule violations we see on a daily basis involve jaywalking.

Of all the violations of bicycle rules, jaywalking is by far the most common.

It is so bad that bicycles are no longer considered to be required to obey traffic signals.

Disregarding traffic signals at non-intersections is especially bad.

At traffic lights on straight roads that are not intersections, they cross the street while pedestrians are crossing the street without hesitation, and I get the feeling that they don’t even think that they should obey the traffic lights.

I believe that drivers of motorcycles and automobiles drive based on the premise that “rules are to be obeyed.

The basic premise that everyone should proceed when there is a green light and stop when there is a red light allows cars to enter intersections at speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

I would like them to think carefully about the fact that from the point of view of those who follow the rules, those who do not follow the rules are unexpected, which increases the likelihood of accidents.

Most serious traffic accidents are caused by not following the rules.

The majority of bicycle fatalities are the result of failure to follow the rules.

The time that can be saved by rushing ahead by jaywalking is only a fraction of the time.

If you cause an accident by jaywalking, you may not be able to recover from it.

Follow the rules as a matter of course. If you can’t do that, you should consider yourself unqualified to ride a bicycle.

About 7 rule violations that I feel are the worst bicycle manners.

About 7 rule violations that I feel are the worst bicycle manners.

I have compiled a list of what I personally feel are the worst rule violations of bicycle manners.

The common denominator is that people with bad manners are all selfishly thinking that all is well as long as it is well for themselves.

They may be unable to consider that their selfish behavior may cause inconvenience to those around them or endanger those who follow the rules.

It is too late to avoid accidents that cause injuries or cause injury. We should always try to obey the rules and ride bicycles safely.

However, there are many people who do not follow the rules despite persistent notices and warnings, not only on bicycle manners also on train manners, smoking manners, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

There are a certain number of people who just cannot follow the rules.

Unfortunately, that is the reality.

The trouble with this problem is that only those who do not follow the rules will listen.

Such people are not interested in anyone but themselves, so they will not listen to any advice or warnings.

If someone warns them, they don’t understand why, so they get upset.

Even if I try to appeal to them to improve their manners, as I did in this article, the only people who will read it are those who already seem to follow the rules to the letter, and I believe that the message will not reach the people I want to deliver it to.

I may be biased, but I suspect that anyone who commits even one of the above manners violations probably commits other manners violations as well.

This is a lamentable summary, but I guess the only thing we can do is to appeal for improved bicycle manners over and over again until such people feel that not following the rules is something to be ashamed of.
